AGRARIAN CULTURAL EXPRESSION IN CHILDREN PLAYS

Abstract

This study examined significant values in Javanese children play “Ancak-Ancak Alis”. This play is full of knowledge especially that of agrarian culture. Nevertheless, nowadays this play has been less popular among young generation. The aims of this study is 1) describing the technique of performing“ Ancak-Ancak Alis”, 2) explaining the expression of agrarian culture included in the play. The results of the study show that “Ancak-ancak Alis” is not only a means for children to create a sense of joy, but also a way to socialize and internalize important world of agrarian life, that is, the knowledge of rice cultivation.The expression of agrarian culture in “Ancak-Ancak Alis” is embedded in the whole activity of the play, especially in the lyrics of the songs and the dialogues.
