SOLIDARITY VALUES IN THE INDONESIAN BATIK MOTIFS

Abstract

Solidarity is an important matter for the Indonesian nation with its diversity. This study reveals the values of solidarity embedded in the motifs of Indonesian batik motifs. This study aims at enriching knowledge about Indonesian batik and raising awareness about the importance of national solidarity. This descriptive qualitative research has found 29 batik motifs that conserve noble values of solidarity, such as Kotak Nan Rancak, Sekar Jagad, Kaledo, Kuda Kupang, and Tambal Ukir. The values of solidarity embedded in the batik motifs are among others diversity, helping each other, togetherness, tolerance, acculturation, harmony, unity, brotherhood, and harmony in community life. Understanding and actualization of these values will strengthen the existence of the Republic of Indonesia.
