PROVIDING CHARACTER EDUCATION PROGRAMME THROUGH JAVANESE PERFORMING ARTS

Abstract

Ki Hadisukatno is one of the figures who has use performing arts as a tool to provide character education. This strategy is in line with Taman Siswa's concept of culture-based education. Character education should start at an early age. Using library research method, this qualitative research looks at the role of Ki Hadisukatno and his notable character. The findings of the research show that Ki Hadisukatno's role was not only as a teacher but also as a pamong (guardian, or fosterer). He educated his student through dolanan anak (Javanese songs for children) and langen carita (children operette).
