Abstract

Javanese women have played a significant role in politics and society. One of the main roles of princesses and court aristocrats is as guardian of the dynasty or wangsa and heir to Javanese tradition. This research was conducted to describe the history of women and their role in everyday life in the southern part of the palace in Central Java in the 18th to early 19th centuries. Methodologically, this research was conducted in four stages, namely heuristics, internal and external criticism, interpretation, and historiography. Based on the study obtained, it can be seen that women born from kingdoms in southern Central Java at least until the end of the Java War had the opportunity to take personal initiative. Their traces were then felt in what was then considered a male affair, namely the world of politics and culture.
