Abstract

Banyan tree is considered by the Javanese as a mystical tree.Therefore, the tree should be treated properly. The mystificationcomes from the character of the tree which has big stem, its height which can reach 30 meters, thick leaves, and roots that protrude from the ground.But behind the mystification of the Banyan tree, it turns out that this Banyan tree has various functions related to ecological sustainability. These functions include groundwater conservation, landslide prevention, to the location of complex biotic interactions, where mutualism symbiosis occurs between species so as to form harmonious ecological relationships that have a positive impact on the environment. banyan tree, as an environmental conservation effort.
